Brush And Roller Technique

This guide is written to instruct you in the proper usage of painting tools. Although it may seem simple but believe us when we say it takes years of practice, experience and concentration to be able to paint like a pro. Many people do not correctly know about the basic technique to hold a brush, let alone use it. You will be amazed how much better your painting finish looks just by using the right technique.

Figure 1

How to use a Brush
Grip the paint brush as shown in Figure 1.

Apply just enough pressure to hold it with your fingertips. Dip only about 1/3rd to 1/2 of the length of the bristles into the paint, and then tap the brush gently on both sides of the can to get rid of any excess paint. Apply the paint evenly using short strokes. After several strokes full, lightly stroke the surface in a uniform path with the tip of the brush to give an even finish.

Figure 2

How to use a Roller

Put paint into your paint tray and move the roller back and forth in the tray to get paint deeply and equally spread on your roller (as shown in Figure 2). Do not put excessive paint on as the excess can flick off if you roll a little too rapidly.

Figure 3

Apply the paint by rolling a ‘W’ or ‘M’ over a length of about 3 feet vertically, and then fill in the gaps by rolling randomly with even up and down strokes. Finish by stroking smoothly and evenly across the area to feather the edges. A constant pressure will give you best results (See Figure 3).
